My left rear wheel is making a scraping sound?

When I was driving home today I heard a loud scraping sound coming from my left rear wheel. Mitch fiance took off the tire and spun the wheel and it made a scraping sound what could cause that? I just had the rear brake shoes replaced and wheel cylinders replaced a couple months ago?
